Update on Cellphone While Driving Laws

By Must be Handsfree Use by Feb. 2010

Ontario drivers are prohibited from using hand-held cell phones and other hand-held electronic entertainment and communications devices while driving.

The Countering Distracted Driving and Promoting Green Transportation Act, 2009 prohibits the use of hand-held devices to talk, text or email while driving.

Several of our customers have already received this ticket which usually carries a $155 fine and does affect your insurance record if your insurer finds out about it.

The maximum fine under the legislation is $500 for a first offence.  We urge you to turn off your phone or at least use a bluetooth handsfee devise to answer urgent calls while driiving.
